Akeredolu’s family members resort to prayer as governor’s health worsens

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s health condition has worsened, according to close aides to the governor who confided in our correspondent.

One of the aides who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said the governor’s health condition has deteriorated, leaving his family members to resort to prayer as the ultimate solution.

Our correspondent had enquired on the health status of Akeredolu from some of his aides following a report by Sahara Reporters alleging that the governor was no longer able to stand on his feet as a result of the chemotherapy he has been receiving for the treatment of leukemia (blood cancer).

The report read: “Each time the governor receives a shot of his chemical therapy, he is knocked out for at least 10 hours. As a result, the governor is barely lucid throughout the day and night,” the online newspaper quoting a source.

Akeredolu has been away from his desk for six months owing to his health situation. He has also not transmitted the powers of the state to his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The continuos absence of Akeredolu from his desk recently caused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State to insist that he transmit power to his Deputy to function as Acting Governor.

According to the party, since the governor “is sick or at best recuperating, thus he remains missing in action and the state deserves every attention, the Constitution has made provisions for a period like this.”
