Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has denied aiding the battery meted out to President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero. He, however, claimed that the Labour leader courted his own woes when he mixed politics with unionism.
Uzodimma who spoke during Channels television’s Politics Today, claimed that he was in Abuja when Ajaero was brutalised by rival union group. But Labour denied the claim, alleging that one of the governor’s aides, Chinasa Nwaneri, brought thugs and policemen that attacked Ajaero.
Uzodimma said: “I am not aware that he (Ajaero) was assaulted. I was in Abuja when I received the news. I immediately called to ask what happened. But going forward, I would like Ajaero to do things in a more civilised manner. He came into my state for protest without hearing from me. That’s wrong.”
Labour commenced flight blacklist to Imo, commencing Thursday to protest the attack on Ajaero and demanding arrest and prosecution of all those involved as condition for suspension of the action.
