Despite the advice of the city’s political elders, the Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday rejected three of the governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s 18 nominations for commissioners while confirming 15 others, in yet another unexpected action.
The confirmation took place following the presentation of a report on the process to the House by Hon. Mojeed Fatai, chief whip and head of the screening committee.
The lawmakers rejected Olalere Odusote, Mr. Samuel Egube, and Hon. Tolani Sule Akibu at a meeting presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.
The House did decide to postpone the confirmation of the Honourable Tolani Sule Akibu for another day, though.
The parliamentarians in attendance at plenary agreed with Obasa’s assessment of the committee’s work in noting the members thoroughly vetted the nominations.
Those confirmed include Dr. Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, Mr. Oluwaseun Oriyomi Osiyemi, Prof. Akinola Emmanuel Abayomi, Dr. Oluwarotimi Omotola, Wahab Fashola, Mrs. Folashade Kaosarat Ambrose-Medem, Mrs. Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, and Mrs.
Others were Mrs. Barakat Akande Bakare, Mr. Olugbenga Omotosho, Mr. Mosopefoluwa George, Dr. Yekini Nurudeen Agbaje, Dr. Olumide Oluyinka, Mr. Abayomi Samson Oluyomi, Dr. Iyabode Oyeyemi Ayoola and Hon. Sola Shakirudeen Giwa.
According to a press release from Mr. Eromosele Ebhomele, Media Assistant to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, the House did not confirm two other candidates, including former Economic Planning and Budget Commissioner Sam Egube, who was rejected in Sanwo-Olu’s initial list.
Additionally, the Assembly again rejected Engr. Olalere Odusote, a former commissioner for energy.
The House additionally turned down a fresh candidate named Tolani Sule Akibu.
PoliticsNow recalls that governor Sanwo-Olu had last week sent a new list of commissioner-nominees to the House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The new list was sent after the Lagos State House of Assembly confirmed 22 and rejected 17 out of the 39 commissioner-nominees sent by governor Sanwo-Olu for screening.
