Again, INEC promises to transmit live results of Imo, Kogi, Bayelsa poll
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided assurances that the uploading of election results onto the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) for the upcoming Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi polls will run smoothly without technical glitches.
This affirmation came from Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary of INEC, during a live appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.
“We have been using the IReV for all gubernatorial elections, but during the 2023 general election, it was the first time it was deployed in that context. While we initially faced some technical hitches, we addressed them promptly. I can confidently state that we have taken necessary measures to ensure a seamless process this time,” he assured.
During the 2023 elections, the process of uploading results encountered significant challenges, which INEC attributed to technical issues. However, Oyekanmi confirmed that these problems have since been successfully resolved.
“Those technical challenges have been effectively resolved. Last week, we conducted a mock accreditation exercise to test the technology we intend to use, and it was a success,” he explained.
Oyekanmi acknowledged that even major tech giants like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter experience occasional downtimes, underscoring the fact that technological challenges can arise. He also emphasized that INEC has learned from the experiences of the 2023 general elections.
Addressing concerns regarding the results transmission process, Oyekanmi clarified that INEC’s approach involves uploading results onto IReV, as opposed to transmitting them.
“We are not transmitting; we are uploading,” he clarified, emphasizing the distinction between these two processes. “Our methodology entails capturing the results from polling units and uploading them onto the portal,” Oyekanmi reiterated.
