The Oscar nominations for 2024 are out, but once again, African films are being snubbed.
Only a few African films, including ‘The Mother of All Lies’ from Morocco and ‘Four Daughters’ from Tunisia, made the shortlist but failed to secure a final nomination in the best international feature category.
They however scored a nomination in the best documentary category.
On a positive note, ‘Io, Capitano,’ an Italian film featuring Senegalese Actor, Seydou Sarr, received a nod in the international feature film category.
Africa, however, left its mark in a different category with ‘Bobi Wine: The People’s President,’ a documentary on the Ugandan pop star turned politician, scoring a nomination in the Best Documentary category.
‘Four Daughters’, a co-production between France, Tunisia, Germany and Saudi Arabia, also scored a nomination in the same category.
The 96th Academy Awards will take place at a ceremony in Los Angeles, on March 10.
