An affidavit sworn by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in 1973, shows Atiku Abubakar officially changed his name from Siddiq Abubakar to Atiku Abubakar.
The affidavit published by Peoples Gazette, read in part: “That in the year 1965, I changed my name to Siddiq Abubakar; That I wish to be known, addressed and called Atiku Abubakar; That all documents bearing my former names remain valid,” Atiku declared at the Chief Magistrate’s Court Registry in Lagos on August 18, 1973.
The document showed the former vice-president was previously known as Atiku Abubakar, then changed to Siddiq Abubakar before reverting back to Atiku Abubakar.
At the time Atiku swore to change his name before a Magistrate in Apapa, he was a deputy preventive superintendent with the Nigeria Customs Service in Apapa, Lagos.
Atiku’s WAEC result showing Siddiq has made headlines, and become a talking point, especially among aides and supporters of President Bola Tinubu, who have been battling with a deposition from Chicago State University that showed he submitted to INEC a certificate that didn’t come from them.
Atiku last Thursday, provided the apex court with fresh evidence that Tinubu submitted a forged Chicago State University (CSU) certificate to INEC shortly after the school’s registrar Caleb Westberg stated under oath said that he could not authenticate the document because the institution did not issue it.
