The Lagos State chapter of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement has condemned the arrest of a government critic, Nurse Abiodun Thomas by the police, saying she was targeted for her views.
A statement by Hassan Taiwo Soweto and Oloye Adegboyega Adeniji on behalf of the organizing committee for the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria accused the police of hounding the activist because of her criticism of their actions, and those of the force spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
The activist was said to have posted a comment critical of the police on her Facebook page.
The statement reads: “The #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria Lagos Chapter condemn the arrest, this morning of Nurse Abiodun Thomas by the Nigeria Police in Lagos state. We hereby call on the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to immediately order her immediate and unconditional release.
“Nurse Abiodun Thomas is a prominent activist and critic of President Tinubu’s anti-poor policies as well as the unlawful conduct of the Nigerian police. Just two months ago, she raised the alarm that the police were after her life due to her criticism of the police including the activities of the Police PRO, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. Of recent, she has been involved in seeking justice for victims of domestic and sexual violence in Lagos State.
“The Nigeria Police must stop the unending trailing and harassment of Nurse Abiodun Thomas for simply being vocal against police brutality, extortion and intimidation.”
