AC Milan’s woes continued as they suffered a humiliating 1-0 home defeat against struggling Udinese on Saturday, intensifying discussions regarding the future of manager Stefano Pioli. The decisive goal was netted by Roberto Pereyra from the penalty spot, following a foul on Festy Ebosele by Yacine Adli.
This latest loss compounds Milan’s predicament after recent defeats to Juventus and PSG, coupled with a draw against Napoli. The club’s injury woes have also escalated, with Pierre Kalulu sidelined for four months, and several other key players are nursing injuries. In an attempt to rejuvenate the team, Pioli introduced a new 4-4-2 formation, but Milan appeared disoriented and short of attacking inspiration.
Despite Udinese’s arrival in poor form, devoid of a victory, they proved to be a challenge on the counterattack. Twice in the first half, Roberto Pereyra squandered golden opportunities to give the visitors the lead. Following the penalty, Isaac Success had a chance to double the advantage, but his effort was brilliantly denied by a remarkable save from Mike Maignan.
As the match entered its closing stages, Milan threw everything forward in pursuit of an equalizer. Ante Rebic, Rafael Leao, and Alessandro Florenzi all came close, yet Udinese clung to their historic triumph.
This defeat leaves Milan trailing leaders Inter by six points after 11 games. Pioli now faces tremendous pressure, with fans demanding improvement. The club’s owners have scheduled crisis talks for the following week to deliberate Pioli’s future.
