The House of Representatives has given approval for the second reading of the 2024 budget, totaling N27.5tn. During the debate, Kafilat Ogbara, a representative from Kosofe Federal Constituency, Lagos State, emphasized the people-centric nature of the budget, aiming to enhance the lives of Nigerians.
Members also called for increased allocations to sectors like education and health. Obinna Ginger, a Labour Party representative, advocated for a higher budgetary allocation to education, citing concerns that the current allocation falls below the UNESCO benchmark of 26%.
The second reading is a stage where the merits of the bill are debated before further consideration in the committee stage.
